Something about Kerm

Kermit Colossus Thales I is a remarkable friend and dog, especially because he’s nearly 112 years old (in dog years).

His friends and family refer to him as Kerm and I consider myself his best friend so he’s always been Kerm to me.

I certainly wasn’t seeking a new best friend but when I happened upon a photo of him 16 years ago in a “seeking a roommate” ad I recognized something in his sad and inquisitive eyes, a kinship in waiting and it captured me or more honestly, my heart.

He was only eleven weeks old the day we met but Kerm is extremely precocious so we became fast friends because anyone who knows me knows I appreciate intelligence and creativity in my relationships.

Even so, he’s never been a bookish fellow but he listens with anticipation whenever I read to him. Sometimes I wonder if perhaps he’s a bit dyslexic? It doesn’t matter though because I’m the verbose one in our relationship and I’d never upbraid him for anything.

Kerm’s strength is his resolve. It may be the terrier in him but if he puts his mind to something it’s as good as done; he always comes through for me. He’ll take over the driving on cross country trips because I tend to get nauseous after a few hours of driving and this is amazing because his legs and arms are quite short.

In his younger years we had our altercations. We are both immensely obstinate and over confident at times so we had a bit of “coming to terms” to do. Now we’ve mellowed with age and we hardly argue anymore but sometimes we have our moments; friends always do.

Friendship is hard to put into words. You know it when it’s there; the unconditional warmth of true friendship can’t compare. Perhaps, Kerm demonstrates friendship best when he lavishes me with kisses even when I have morning breath.

Kerm is my friend and I am ever his. πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ’™πŸ•

He sounds like an awesome little guy! I bet he could teach Al a few lessons from experience. Enjoy the country, Kerm!
