On being

Ontologically speaking…

Even I wouldn’t want to read beyond this preamble but…

I’ll give it a go regardless…

“I think therefore I am.” Descartes’ circular reasoning has forever grappled with my conscience. Can I prove I am the one thinking? Am I and I at all? If I’m an I and thinking how shall I determine whose the thinker of the thought of I?

Is it the thought I need to prove or do I first need to establish whether or not the thought is produced by me? Me? I’m not convinced that I’m an I and now there’s a me to contend with.

The reduction to absurdity is a bit mind boggling; something that may be me is perceiving a thought whose stimulus may or may not be within or without my minds doing. Being is never just being; it’s active; it’s passive; it’s a perception of existence.

I’m sure I must exist yet sometimes I sense I may not…
